Lovely Nyx Palettes &nude on nude S119
Hello ladies, I know this is late coming, and you all have probably seen these palettes before, well...TOO BAD (: I've had my eye on these palettes for a while and I finally decided to pick them up. These collections released a few years ago but they are still quite popular today! I prefer them over the new Nyx palettes, but I must say, Nyx is getting better and better every time they release something.
I ordered these palettes off of amazon.com. I have a student account set up through amazon where certain things I order qualify for FREE two day shipping, and luckily for me, these babies were included. When they arrived it really did look like they were thrown in a box and had air puffs stuffed in and shipped off. So if you're a stickler for shipping, I would say stick with the nyx website, cherryculture.com or ulta.com. I ordered them on Sunday, and they arrived mid day Tuesday; I was quite impressed with how fast they got to me.
**On a personal note, I like to order off amazon because I qualify for free shipping and they normally ship through UPS. I LOOOVVVEEE that UPS has up to date tracking information because I'm that person that constantly tracks the things I order >.<
Enough rambling, lets begin (:
(Click on the pictures for a larger photo)
I ordered 2 palettes from the Runway Collection, this is how they are packaged.
It's very plain but I find it to be quite chiq.
This is the 06 Romance Palette
&swatches--
ALL shimmers and satin finishes
(*I think I might have a potential travel palette, YAAYY!! :])
&this is 02 Strike a Pose
&swatches--
(a mixture of mattes and shimmers)
I was very disappointed in these palettes and I'm glad I only picked up the two. The eye shadows are very chalky and on my skin tone, they don't show up. These photos were swatched with no base or primer. And when I tried to do swatches with a makeup brush, it did not have the same color pay off. While they are pretty colors, (I love neutrals, and I really liked the cranberry color in the Strike a Pose palette), I would not recommend these. Elf has $1 quads that are better than these in my opinion.
Next I picked up a few palettes from there Caribbean Collection
I'm a sucker for all things tropical and a lot of the colors in this collection stood out to me.
The packaging is cute, I love the little palm tree. It's simple but still quite chiq
I Dream of St. Marteen
(*I love neutrals, I order this one specifically for when I travel)
&swatches (they are backwards from ^ pic)
definetely a satin finish to these except the last one here has bits of shimmer to it
I Dream of Aruba
(*I love cranberry colors in the crease, they are my fav)
&swatches-
they are all shimmery to me. the cranberry however comes off a little bit more satin.
(look a that gold, absolutely amazing!)
I Dream of St.Lucia
More of a satin finish, but they look matte
swatches--
Last but not least
I Dream of St. Thomas
(I got this soley for the green color, &it was well worth it)
All satin finishes, not enough sparkle that I would consider it a shimmer.
LOOK AT THAT GREEN! Unbelievable!!
This collection was amazing to me. I picked up the palettes that stood out to me the most, but I'm contemplating going back and ordering the other ones today. They are so creamy and feeling amazing when you wear them. They don't crease (I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk when I wear these) &the color pay off is amazing. These photos were taken without a base/primer down, and for someone with a tan complexion, I was very amazed! Normally shadows, blushes, and lippies (especially lippies) don't show up on me because I have very yellow undertones with a tan complexion. But I would recommend these palettes hands down!
The last palette I purchased was the S119- Nude on Nude Palette
&honestly girls, I don't understand why this doesn't much love or hype.
Now, I know Urban Decay came out with the Naked Palette which I own. Sigma is coming out with there version a long with every other cosmetic company out there. But this one, for the price &the amount you get, I feel is worth it.
Now, I've looked at many YT videos and MUA site, but it doesn't really give great quality pictures of the shadows. I'm not huge lippie, So i did not take close ups of those, but I will show you close ups of the eye shadows itself.
(From left to right)
Now, I'm not a huge fan of lip products in a pan or a jar. My experience is that they tend to be very sheer and child like makeup. These are the same way, but I found that if you scoop out a tiny bit and apply it to the lips that way, that it actually can show up more pigmented on your lips. They are too sheer to use in any other way in my opinion.
Overall-I think this is the ultimate neutral palette for the price. $25 on most websites. Porkdaisy is a good place to go to find discounted Nyx products. I've never used them myself, but I have seen other YT guru's use them. Packaging wise, its not very good. It feels like cheap recycled plastic and the eye shadows are not straight when they are glued in the pan. Some of the eyeshadows are chalky (the lighter shades) and the darker shades aren't too pigmented (its a hit or miss). But as a neutral eyeshadow palette, I think this hit it right on the money.
